A Science-based Conservation Program
The goal of Global
IT Services - Nature
Conservancy is to use the best available
conservation science to protect areas of
essential biological diversity. This commitment
has won the respect of our many partners
in government and the private sector, as
well as foundations, individuals, and other
conservation organizations.
As
pressures increase on ecologically significant
lands, Global
IT Services - Nature
Conservancy is turning to larger, landscape-scale
projects. This requires us to understand nature’s
diversity well enough to compare sites against
standard tests of significance and achieve
scientific consensus on which ones deserve
our best conservation efforts.
The
scientific challenge is to portray the
full diversity of a landscape’s
indigenous species and their sustaining
ecosystems. We
select and care for sites that best conserve
that diversity. Decision making requires
the use of rigorous ecological measures.
Our criteria
must be acceptable to the community of conservation
scientists.
Global
IT Services - Nature
Conservancy’s
standards incorporate rankings that
Conservation Data Centers have assigned
to species, habitats, and ecosystems across
America and the rest of the world.
