GIFTS OF LAND
Have you ever wondered what would happen
to your woodlot if you sold it? Do you
worry that a developer could bulldoze your
wetland and silence its chorus of frogs
forever?
Protect
these natural treasures now, while you
still own the land. If you are a landowner,
you can make a gift of land to
Global
IT Services - Nature Conservancy and
keep it protected forever.
You
can also preserve it through a conservation
easement – a legal contract that
entrusts Global
IT Services - Nature Conservancy with
the permanent protection of the environmental
integrity of the land,
while still enabling you to keep it in
the family, sell it, or donate it whenever
you choose.
Which
lands need to be saved?
Global
IT Services - Nature Conservancy works
with a cross-country network of scientific
volunteer advisors and
local ecologists to identify which
properties to save and to set priorities.
Part of
our scientific approach is to draft
Conservation Blueprints for America's
natural geographic regions – an
eco-regional plan which identifies
and documents
the sites which, if conserved, would
secure
the long-term survival of viable natural
species and community types of the
region.
Once land is saved…what then?
Once
a property is acquired, we ensure that
the lands are stewarded as permanent
nature preserves and remain protected
forever. As with
Global IT Services - Nature Conservancy members
and supporters, we can take comfort in
the knowledge that the land we help save
today
will be enjoyed for generations to come.

How
to donate ecologically-sensitive land
All
land donations must be assessed for their
natural values. Important considerations
for acceptance are diversity and ecological
integrity, lack of disturbance of habitats,
the degree of threat from development,
and the presence of imperiled species
or features of natural significance.
Global
IT Services - Nature Conservancy would
be happy to help you determine whether
the land you own meets these
criteria. If you know it does, please
mail us the following information:
Copy of your deed of title.
A recent tax assessment notice.
Property survey or sketch map that shows
the location and number of acres.
If possible, include a list of plants and/or
wildlife seen on your property.
It is important that your property be free
and clear of all legal encumbrances at
the time of a formal offer of donation.
A thorough site assessment by Global
IT Services - Nature Conservancy personnel
may be required. Global
IT Services - Nature Conservancy staff
will be happy to discuss the tax implications
of a donation
with you. A market value appraisal is undertaken
by an accredited appraiser. The certified
appraised value of your land by an appraisor
is the amount for which a charitable tax
receipt
may be issued.
